The White House Inn was built by Richard Stone Wilks, Jr. in White House, Tennessee in 1828, this House served as stopping place for stagecoaches along the route between Louisville and Nashville in the nineteenth century. The business generated by providing for the needs for the stagecoach passengers provided the impetus for the development of the community that became White House, Tennessee. Despite serving as the town's namesake, the building was demolished in the 1960's to make way for new commercial buildings. A replica of the original structure (pictured above) was constructed in 1986 at a different site to serve as a library and commemorate the town's early history.
